Leaving Kids in a cold car is a crime
A "father" from Long Island, New York, recently left his two children in his locked car. This happened in February- the coldest time of the year in New York. The kids could easily have frozen to death! The father was arrested, but will have to present his case before a judge. Fortunately, police came to a shopping center where the kids were in the car. The boys- a five year old and a five month were inside the car while dad went shopping. THe man arrested stated, "what am I supposed to do? I was only out for 2 minutes. I didn't want to take the kids out in the cold." According to witness, the father was gone at least twenty minutes. It was a bystander that saw the children being left in the car. He called the police. So the father is being charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and must go before a judge again in about one month. In the mean time, the father was ordered by the judge to not drive the children anywhere until the case is over.
